The American Congress is a history of key moments and people in the U.S. Congress. I worked with Professor Julian E. Zelizer to gather and publish essays from a distinguished list of historians and journalists to tell the story of the legislative branch.

The Chronology of American Literature, published by Houghton Mifflin, details literary achievements in every year since colonial times - a huge database for libraries and readers, published in print and electronic form.

At the Appalachian Mountain Club I launched several book series, published dozens of books, and digitized the mapping program. Sales doubled and the map databases became invaluable tools for environmental study and conservation projects.

The History of Science and Technology records the major (and not so major) achievements of science, engineering, and technology since 6800 BC. Also rendered as a database for libraries and reference websites.

Above and Beyond was a history of the Medal of Honor I edited for Time-Life Books. We interviewed dozens of surviving recipients from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and traced the history of the medal from the Civil War through Vietnam. An update is planned.

Pawns of War was part of the Time-Life series The Vietnam Experience. It told the stories of Laos and Cambodia in the war years. Also edited Words of War, a literary anthology of the war.
